The team behind Murderer, Nightfall and Rise of the Legend – director Roy Chow Hin-yeung and his wife, scriptwriter Christine To Chi-long – are hard at work on their latest project, The Great Detective.
The movie is a fantasy detective thriller, on which the pair are also serving as producers with Han Geng, Yin Zheng, Zhang Huiwen, Yu Yang and Law Kar-ying starring. The film is adapted from Cheng Xiaoqing’s Huo Sang Detective Stories, often referred to as the greatest figure in Chinese detective literature.
The first poster for the film has been released with Han Geng as the title character, a very Sherlockian styled detective, wearing a blindfold and featuring four sentences in Chinese, “High IQ is his burden! Meticulous investigation is his bottom line, Anger is his sense of humour, Cleanliness is his basic requirement!” which very much sets up the character and his way of investigating.
The film will feature action sequences choreographed by longtime Yuen Woo-ping mainstay Tony Ling Chi-wah (whose credits include everything from Fearless, Tomorrow Never Dies, Man of Tai Chi and more). After completing its shooting in Shanghai, the production has moved to the Czech Republic and will complete its shooting in Prague.
