Prepare for a close encounter with ‘Arrival’…

Arrival

We are not alone in the universe – but can we speak a similar language..? That’s the question asked by the upcoming thriller ‘Arrival’…

Unapologetic action blockbusters dominate the summer, but we’re also suckers for the seasons that bring films that equally present a strong central story and compelling premise.

You may not have heard much about Arrival as yet, but that’s likely to change given the star-power of its cast and the idea at its core.

Reading like a cross between Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Contact and the less-frustrating bits of Interstellar, Arrival looks set to join the genre of speculative cosmic adventure that has something more to say than merely ‘Open Fire!‘.  In this latest cosmic entry, craft appear on Earth and Amy Adams’ linguist Louise Banks is drafted in to help with urgent attempts to communicate with the visitors. But language is a complicated thing and as the military – including Forest Whitaker’s Colonel Weber – attempt to discern the intentions of the newly-arrived , Banks and Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner – The , The Hurt Locker, The Legacy) know that time is running out. Their ability to understand the nuances of dialogue and basic human emotions may either save the day or lead to a cosmic misunderstanding… but which will it be?

The film, distributed by Paramount, opens internationally on 11th November. Until then, here’s the trailer…
