Ghost in the Shell

The live-action adaptation of cult anime ‘Ghost in the Shell‘ has been controversial from the outset, but a series of teasers now gives us an idea of how the production will look…

There’s still some considerable controversy about the casting within the Ghost in the Shell big screen adaptation, but we’re now getting a first glimpse about what the actual ‘feel’ of the production will be. Though it amounts to only a few selective seconds of screen-time, there are now five teaser trailers that depict elements of the story and while one can still suggest that the ethnicity of some of the key characters is a nod to Hollywood’s belief that it needs to front-load movies with western actors, it would be hard to knock the texture of the scenes on show here.

As always, the film’s success will come down to the strength of the performances and the story, but judging solely on the cinematography, make-up, lighting and mood, this is quite a strong opening salvo and perhaps an answer to some of the criticisms that have been levelled thus far.

The film, due to open on 31st March next year, stars , , Juliette Binoche, Pilou Asbaek in the key roles, alongside the likes of Rila Fukushima, Chin Han and the legendary Kitano and has been directed by Rupert Sanders, probably best known to date for Snow White and the Huntsman
