Jackie Chan is an icon of eastern action and beyond. But until now he’s never earned an ‘Oscar’. This past weekend saw that oversight put right…
We told you back in September that Jackie Chan was to receive an honorary Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – a long overdue award for a man who has made so many movies, broken so bones in the process and who came to be the face of a whole movie genre.
“The Honorary Award was created for artists like Jackie Chan, Anne Coates, Lynn Stalmaster and Frederick Wiseman – true pioneers and legends in their crafts,” said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs at the time. “The Board is proud to honor their extraordinary achievements, and we look forward to celebrating with them at the Governors Awards in November.”
As stated, the award was not given as part of the main award show but at a special dinner held on 12th November for the elite recipients. Chan was in good form, cracking jokes and clearly genuinely moved by the golden statuette. The audience, including friends such as Sylvester Stallone, applauded as Jackie told of how he first saw such a statuette while vuisting Stallone many years before… but he never thought he’d ever receive one.
You can see his acceptance speech below. Everyone at Impact sends him congratulations him on his success, his career and the sense of fun he’s brought to all of us through his big screen adventures…
