Max Zhang/Zhang Jin is definitely the new ‘Dragon the Block’, with multiple projects being promoted at this year’s Hong Kong Filmart.
The former Wushu athlete began his career as a stunt double on such projects as Crouching Tiger – Hidden Dragon, before co-starring roles in such projects as The Grandmaster, SPL 2, Rise of the Legend and, of course, Ip Man 3 proved his potential as an actor as well as exceptional screen fighter. Zhang is currently filming Pacific Rim 2 and will be seen in the following projects over the next year…
The Invincible Dragon – Zhang headlines Fruit Chan’s new action thriller, one which began life as the Man with the Dragon Tattoo, then became Made in Kowloon and is now known by the IFD‘tastic title of Invincible Dragon. The film tells of a ‘cop on the edge’ who is drawn into conflict with a vicious killer when his family are threatened. It stars Annie Liu (Hungry Ghost), Richard Ng (Rigor Mortis), Juju Chan (Savage Dog) and UFC legend Anderson Silva.
Cheung Tin-Chi / Ip Man Spin Off: Zhang will also reprise his role as Wing Chun master Cheung Tin-chi from Ip Man 3, in a standalone movie with the working title being the characters name. The film which will be directed and choreographed by the legendary Yuen Woo-ping and will be shooting this summer in Foshan. It will see Michelle Yeoh, Tony Jaa and Dave Bautista joining the action this time round.
Man on The Brink: Zhang also stars in Jonathan Li’s directorial debut The Brink, which tells of a group of fisherman who smuggle gold… and the police who chase them. Zhang sports blond hair (perhaps in a nod of the head to 1973’s Seaman No 7, which saw a blond James Tien also featured plenty of underwater action). The Brink also stars Shawn Yue from Wild City, Actor/producer Gordon Lam (Trivisa), Janice Man (Helios), Wu Yue (From Vegas to Macau 2), and Yasauki Kurata (Twinkle Lucky Stars) also feature. Li makes his directorial debut while Soi Cheang (Dog Bite Dog) produces.
