The film, which would have starred Soairse Ronan (star of The Lovely Bones, Hanna) was set to shoot in Asia and rework the story of Snow White as a period drama where a western girl comes under the protection of seven warriors. The official reason, according to Deadline, was the rising cost of the production, supposedly in the $150 million ballpark, but pundits might alos suggest that the other Snow White themed movies (the comedic Mirror, Mirror and the soon-to-be-released Snow White and the Hunstman) had already saturated the market, with Mirror, Mirror underperforming.

As recently as February, much was being made of an international cast potentialy full of major martial-arts names, but it wasn't to be after all. Ronan will next be seen in 2013's adaptation of The Host, based on the book by Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight saga.
