CBS doesn’t feel the ‘Rush’…

Rush Hour

Despite a major push at the start, CBS’ latest attempt to bring the big-screen ideas to television has faltered with the cancellation of Rush Hour…

It’s probably not a surprise, but Rush Hour won’t be coming back for a second run according to industry site Deadline..

The action series, based on the popular Jackie Chan / Chris Tucker movies, launched on CBS at the end of March but never really found its footing. Many critics – including our own Mike Leeder – noted that though there was a lot of potential in the pilot and its action-sequences, the initial outing and subsequent episodes felt largely beholden to the personalities of the original stars and it became little more than a diluted version of the film with capable performers (John Foo and Justin Hires) never allowed to break out and find their own rhythms.

The ratings for Rush Hour were poor from the start but as the current season of shows draws to a close on the networks, the current plan is to air all the completed episodes (a total of 13) rather than merely yank it from air. That means the series finale will still be scheduled for 23rd June.  Given that the fate of Limitless is still up in the air (it’s a favourite here at Impact) and that the likes of Training Day, Lethal Weapon and Frequency are planned by various networks for the 2016/2017 season, the failure of Rush Hour does not mean the end of attempts to spin-off popular movies into a tv format…
