The proposed Highlander remake once again faces delays as its proposed director moves on to other projects...

Impact has long-standing and close ties with the Highlander franchise, but even we have to admit that the high road seems to be a long and winding one when it comes to the film franchise.  Fifteen years after the successful spin-off television series ended and the rare cinema entries have continued to be of frustrating quality.  The news that the original film was going to get re-imagined was met with a mixed reaction, but it appears that it could still be a long while before the public has any chance to judge the outcome.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who helmed 28 Weeks Later and who was the most recent person to be hired as director, has exited the project. Previously Justlin Lin (the Fast & Furious franchise) also passed on the film, but remains as a possible executive producer.

Fresnadillo's departure is said to be amicable and Summit Entertainment appear to still see the Highlander remake as a going concern. Rumours linked an unlikely Ryan Reynolds to the project as a possible Connor MacLeod and it is not known if the further delays will impact that possibility.

The latest draft of the script is penned by Noah Oppenheim after Art Marcum and Matt Holloway wrote an earlier version.
