Though it was seemingly denied only recently and there's no OFFICIAL word as yet, it does appear from industry sources that a deal is imminent for J J Abrams to direct a forthcoming Star Wars movie, most likely the first of the new raft of Star Wars movies planned to come in the wake of Disney buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion in October..
Abrams is currently in post-production for the latest Star Trek film, Into Darkness, due in the spring and it is believed that both he and Ben Affleck, the latter currently being lauded for Argo, were short-listed for the director's chair. IF the news is verified, this would certainly seem to complicate Abrams continued helming of the Trek franchise - it is highly unlikely that he would be able to do both, for time and pragmatic reasons.
Little is known about the specific plans for the continuation of the Star Wars saga, except that Disney is eager for a slew of new projects including movies, beginning with an 'Episode 7' planned for 2015.
