It looks as if the writers of the most recent James Bond outing, SkyFall, will be tackling another cult icon in their next project. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been hired for the much-anticipated Barbarella television series - based around the adventures, misadventures and wardrobe malfunctions of the of the sexy space heroine. The character was created by author Jean-Claude Forest, but is perhaps best known from the 1968 big-screen version which starred Jane Fonda in the title role and was directed by Roger Vadim. Trivia-wise, the story also featured the villain Duran Duran, from which the pop band of the 1980s took their name.
Gaumont International Television are producing the new series, with the pilot being directed by Nicholas Refn (Drive, Valhalla Rising, Bronson and the upcoming Logan's Run remake...)
