RIP Jerry Doyle

Jerry Doyle, best known for his role in cult series ‘Babylon 5’ has passed away at the age of 60…

Best known for playing Michael Garabaldi in cult series Babylon 5, Jerry Doyle has apparently passed away at the age of 60. TMZ claims that he was found unresponsive in his Las Vegas home on Wednesday and foul-play is not suspected.

The son of a police-man and a stay-at-home mother, he became a stock-broker and a corporate pilot before moving into acting. He actually made his debut playing a David Addison wannabee’ in an episode of Moonlighting. But his most prominent role was as Garabaldi in J Michael Straczynski’s epic science-fiction series set on a future space-station that finds itself caught up in a pivotal cosmic convergence of agendas and historical significance as a war threatens to decimate the galaxy. Garabaldi was the nostalgic and sardonic head of security for the station who reluctantly finds himself compromised by outside forces and does his best to do the right thing as that job becomes more and more complicated. Doyle reprised the role again for the series of tv movies that acted as spin-offs/sequels from the main show,

He was briefly married to co-star Andrea Thompson between 1995 and 1997.

In later years he voiced the titular Captain Simian in Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys cartoon and made guest-apperances in the likes of JAG and NYPD Blue. He moved into politics, running in 2000 as the Republican candidate for California’s 24th Congressional District and was well known for his political commentary thereafter – sharing his Right-Wing stance on his own talk show.
