Harrison Ford & Co back for more 'Wars'?

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 19th February 2013

Harrison Ford and other Star Wars veterans look to be in talks to return to a galaxy far, far away...

Much has been speculated since J J Abrams was announced as the guy filming the new Star wars movies for Disney. After the concerns over whether he could steer both Trek and Wars (current status suggesting he plans to do both, but we'll see how that goes...) the gossip turns to casting. Would any Star Wars veterans return.

It is known that Lucas met with both mark Hammil and Carrie Fisher in the run up to his sale of tLucasfilm to Disney, so there are some sugegstions they're onboard. The latest rumours suggest that Harrison Ford may also have been involved in conversations, though it's well-known thhat he apparently wanted Solo killed off in Return of the Jedi.

The last time Harrison Ford reprised a Lucasfilm character was in the disappointing Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skull -and while we're still big fans of Ford, part of us is excited about his potential return as Han Solo (Be it for a cameo or something more)in the new JJ Abrahams directed Star Wars movie, we're also worried that perhaps he's a little old to be playing the reckless smuggler we all know and love..... (which may mean that anothher piece of speculation - that the new films will centre around a 'next generation' - is more credible)

Although if it was to be an adaptation of the short story The Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett ,a short story written by Daniel Keys Moran that appeared in the Tales of the Bounty Hunters collection, thats something we could get excited about. Its a tale that is almost The Killing Joke adapted for Han & his arch nemesis and fan favourite Bobba Fett, with a Heat styled face-off between the two on a remote planet, which sees an older if not necessarily wiser Solo trying to find one last adventure and ending up face to face with Fett who chides him for his continued recklessness.

Bobba Fett: Everyone dies.

Han Solo: Yeah, eventually. But it doesn't have to be today, not for either of us.

Bobba Fett: I do not know. Trust is hard, among enemies. Perhaps we should return to the battle; perhaps, Han Solo, we should let fly, and once more let fate decide who will survive, as we did when we were young.

The story offers a fascinating glimpse at what could be, even if it does offer a back story that was vetted and approved by George Lucas, before being contradicted compeltely by the prequels with that whole Jango Fett lunacy.....we much prefer the idea of Bobba Fett being a former lawman so frustrated by the inadequacies of the legal system that he decided to take a different path as a Bounty Hunter, while the idea of a past-it Han Solo trying to enjoy one last hurrah for chivalry and then running into a seemingly unstoppable Bobba Fett is great fun.

Back to the 'real' world and very little is known for sure. But with the time ticking away until a planned 2105 release it can only be a matter of time before plans firm up...
