Kang swaps Fast/Furious for Infernal-esque TV

Written by (Editor) on 20th February 2013

Sung Kang looks to be swapping Fast and Furious and Bullet to the Head for some 'infernal' television in 'Gang Related'...

Sung Kang, who has made a name for himself in The Fast & the Furious franchise and the recent Sylvester Stallone outing Bullet to the Head will be working with his F&F writer Chris Morgan on a new television show for Fox in the US...

'Gang Related' has touches of the Infernal Affairs remit and sees Ramon Rodriguez (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, The Taking of Pelham 123 and the ill-fated Charlie's Angels tv revival) as Ryan Lopez, a gang member of a powerful crime syndicate who is sent to infiltrate and rise through the ranks of the San Francisco Police Department's 'Gang Task-Force' and rely information back to his fellow gang members. However his loyalties are divided as he becomes more and more entwined and respectful of his fellow police-officers. Kang has been cast as Tae Kim, an FBI specialist who specialises in Asian gangs and who clashes with Ryan over tactics and considers him far too dangerous.

Allen Hughes will direct the pilot episode. Allen is one half of the Hughhes Brothers, the duo responsible for the likes of Book of Eli, From Hell and Menace II Society. His first film as a solo-director Broken City, stars Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg and is is out in the UK on March (when we'll be reviewing it here).

If the pilot is successful, Gang Related could find a place on the autumn/Fall schedules.
