Jesse Johnson helms a slick pitch reel for a certain star spangled superheroine

One of Impact's favourite directors Jesse Johnson, helmer of Pit Fighter, The Last Sentinel, The Butcher, Charlie Valentine and most recently The Package with Steve Austin & Dolph Lundgren, has unveiled a slick pitch reel which has his take on the star spangled sueprheroine known as Wonder Woman.

For those needing a history lesson, Wonder Woman, the Warrior Princess of the Amazons was created during World War 2 by Willaim Moulton Marston, making her debut in All Star Comics 8 published in December 1941. The character was part of a tribe of female warriors known as the Amazons, who live on Paradise island hidden in a vast ocean. But when Captain Steve Trevor's plane crashes on the island, Diana finds him and nurses him back to health, falling in love with him at the same time, and leaving Paradise Island to accompany Steve on his journey back to the real world.

She adopts the name of Diana Price as her secret identity, and as Wonder Woman goes into battle against the Axis forces alongside Steve, battling Nazi forces and the Japanese till the wars end. She is gifted wuth superior combat and battle skills, as well as superhuman powers and an arsenal of weapons including the Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets, a tiara which can also be used as a projectile and at times, an invisible airplane...

Her character has continued to battle on against the forces of evil into the present day in the comic books, even having a child by Superman in certain now non-continuity stories, and has hit the screen before most memorably in 1975's Wonder Woman TV series starring Lynda Carter, which ran for four years, as well as various animated adventures. Attempts to bring the character back to the small screen as a live-action character have floundered, including a very disappointing 2011 unaired pilot, while the CW home of Smallville and Arrow, has been talking of developing a possible Wonder Woman series, known as Amazon.

Meanwhile Jesse Johnson has put together an ambitious fan film trailer for his own take on the character, with actress Nina Bergman as the title character, and a supporting cast that includes Peter Stormare (Prison Break) and Matthias Hues (Dark Angel), with fight choreography by Luke LaFontaine.

The promo reel sees Wonder Woman in action against Nazi forces, taking on soldiers hand to hand, deflecting bullets, pulling off some nice acrobatic takedowns, some power moves, shooting down German warplanes before transitioning to themodern day world. Nina certainly comes across as Wonder Woman and vanquishes any memories of the 'we dont have any idea what we're doing with the character' pilot of a few years back, and we'd love to see Johnson and his team given the chance to take their vision for the character further. Wonder Woman is a character that needs to be handled carefully, and this most definitely is the way we'd love to see it being handled.
