Unusual Suspect? del Toro for ‘Predator’ reboot?

Del Toro for Predator

Who’s going to feature in the ‘Predator’ reboot? There are rumours of Arnie returning, but there’s likely to be at least one ‘Usual Suspect’ in the form of Benicio del Toro…

Though it’s very early days at the moment, industry site Deadline reports that The Usual Suspects and Sicario star is in talks to star in a of the Predator franchise. The project has been discussed for some time, with plans for to helm the production from a script by Fred Dekker (Monster Squad). Action film fans will note, of course, that Black  – now best known for directing the likes of  Kiss-Kiss-Bang-Bang, 3 and The Nice Guys – actually appeared in the original 1987 film as an ill-fated member of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s team of jungle mercenaries.

Mr del Toro has been busy of late. He received plaudits for his role in Sicario and will reprise his shady character for the upcoming sequel Soldado and he has some sort of role in the next main Star Wars feature – though his specific role is being kept under wraps for now.

The Predator reboot (currently known simply as THE , a la THE Wolverine a movie tactic to make it feel definitive) is due in early 2018 though there’s very little known about the intended story. At the moment it does appear that rather than a wholesale reinvention it will be , in part, a sequel to the original (though, perhaps less so to the Alien Vs Predator movies and the Predators spin-off).
