Protect and Swerve: SHIELD gets trailer

Written by John Mosby on 13th May 2013

SHIELD is getting ready to saddle up for a full series. ABC has just released a first look at what we can expect...

UPDATED 14/05/13 : ABC has confirmed that the series will debut in its TUESDAY 8PM slot. This will place it opposite one of America's highest-rated shows NCIS - which either suggests ABC have high confidence in SHIELD or it's a massive gamble. We've also swapped out the trailer for the latest, longer version...

We already knew it was pretty much a done deal but news comes that ABC has officially confirmed a season order after approving the SHIELD pilot. The show, which will formally be called Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, (though one doubts fans will bother with the full title) doesn't have a specified broadcast date yet (ABC will announce their proposed 2013-2014 schedule this coming week) but it suspected it will debut in a prime position in the Autumn/Fall schedule (with a slight chance it might be held over as a mid-season starter in early 2014)

Here is the first proper trailer for the show - it features snippets of the action we can expect and some of the main cast (as well as elements from the Avengers to set the scene).  It all looks pretty enticing, including some globe-trotting (that looks like the streets of Paris to us) and it remains one of the most anticipated new launches.

It looks like Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) is alive and well, though possibly walking with a slight limp and will be governing the new team or recruits (and those who valet his car) with an iron glove. We also can't help wondering whether that seemingly super-powered leaper in the trailer might well be Marvel character Luke Cage, possibly played by Whedon favourite and Angel regular J.August Richards whose role has yet to be specified...

In addition, it might be worth keeping an eye on: http://www.wearetherisingtide.com/blog/   with which Marvel seem to be enjoying some viral marketing...
