Ghost in the Shell

The big-screen production of ‘Ghost in the Shell‘ has had plenty of controversy. But  at least in the VFX deaprtment, it’s first full speaks to an ambitious, multi-layered look…

It’s been quite a week for ambitious movie – including the the likes of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Worlds – their visuals speaking to the way that cinema has evolved in the last few years and where now almost anything is possible.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that the controversy regarding the casting choices is any less – there’s still a huge debate on why Hollywood continues to ‘westernise’ and ‘whitewash’ roles that are traditionally Asian.  But at least on the ‘look’ of a prime example such as ‘Ghost in the Shell‘, one cannot argue that the visual effects and wardrobe departments haven’t being working over time to get the ‘look’ of the film on target.

The trailer for the film may put as ‘The Major’ front and centre as but the landscape and environment is key and those wondering if the project would be tweaked to fit western audiences on a more profound scale can at least be assured that time and money has been spent on the environment. While it may not have put all minds at rest, perhaps quite rightly given that there’s plenty of recent films that look amazing but suffer in the story-telling department,  we can only hope that plotting and acting lives up to the effects and environment in which the production is firmly grounding itself.

On that level… it look very impressive indeed.

The film opens globally in March 2017.
