Every year some films get shuffled out of the mix. It can happen for a variety of reasons - from the feeling that there's too much similar compeition in a certain season to genuine problems with the movie that the studio feels need fixing before it can hit cinemas. For example, World War Z, out this week, went back for a massive reworking. Hansel & Gretel needed time for a 3D reworking and G I Joe Retalliation had tweaks to its storyline to change and emphasise character-arcs. The change of date can be either just a week or two or something more significant.
It would appear that the adaptation of Frank Miller's A Dame to Kill For falls into the latter. Directed by Miller and Robert Rodriguez, it WAS due to hit cinemas in October but now it won't see the light of day until August 2014.
It is not known why the decision has been made or why it's such a dramatic delay, but it could possibly have something to do with the time needed for the rotoscope-style effects that were also a key part of the original Sin City film. The film's interweaving narratives see the return of previous cast-members including Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba and Bruce Willis wth Josh Brolin appearing as a younger version of Clive Owen's character. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Juno Temple, Jaime Chung, Christopher Meloni and Ray Liotta are also set to appear.
This is the second Frank Miller-related project to be delayed. The sequel to 300, entitled 'Rise of an Empire', also featuring Green, will now not debut until March.
