Mark Millar's up to speed with MPH...

Written by (Editor) on 13th September 2013

Apparently, it's a busy time to be Mark Millar - so we bring you up to speed on what his latest projects - both comic and cinematic...

Kick Ass 2 recently hit cinemas and though its box-office take might not have been quite as big as hoped, the fact that it was produced for much less than the typical Hollywood superhero movie means that it's still likely to make a profit. However co-creator Mark Millar has several other irons in the fire - both for the screen and the comic-book page.

Yesterday director/writer Joe Carnahan tweeted that he and his brother Matt had finished the initial screenplay for the adaptation of Nemesis (described when the comic was released as a take on what would happen if someone with all the intellect, resources and equipment of a hero like Batman actually turned those elements to the OTHER side of the law.

Also this week, industry-site The Hollywood Reporter released details about Millar's next comic project, MPH... written by Millar and illustrated by Duncan Fegredo (the British artist best known for his work on Hellboy). The new comic will be, according to Millar, the first of many new creations and his next step in creating his own universe, akin to the way that Marvel first created interconnected comics early in their publishing empire. The concept of MPH is of four nineteen year-olds who discover a drug that lets them move at tremdnous speed but only for seven days. As is often the case, Millar has said that the fantastical concept will be grounded in a more realistic environment and attitude - in this case it will be, ironically, the troubled streets of modern Detroit - once the car capital of America.

Like Millar's most recent comic project, Jupiter's Legacy, MPH will be published by Image Comics and will be out In February. The Kick-Ass 3 comics, the final part of the what-if-kids-tried-to-be-superheroes concept is currently being released by Marvel's Icon imprint and will conclude early in 2014.
