Though it has had its critics over the levels of violence and point-scoring methods within its remit, the Grand Theft Auto gaming franchise is still going strong - so strong that, according to publisher Take Two, the open-world action game just managed to generate a record-breaking $800 million in worldwide revenue for its FIRST day of release. The Grand Theft Auto V game hit stores on Tuesday across the world (it is yet to be on sale in Brazil and Japan, which will only bolster its success) and managed to single-handedly beat previous sale benchmarks such as those set by the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops II which held the record at an opening turnover of $500 million (and which went on to make $1billion in just fifteen days) and the Man of Steel movie which sold $663 million on its shelf debut.
In the UK alone, Grand Theft Auto V made £65 million (which is 1.57 million games). Whether it beats the best-sales of other titles in the long-term remains to be seen, but with such healthy sales and strong reviews, it's likely the latest GTA game will continue to reap in the profits.
