Best known for the American Pie series, Sean William Scott will be joining Jackie Chan and the lovely Fan Bing-bing for Chan’s English language action comedy Skiptrace, developed from an idea by Chan himself. The film will see Jackie playing a detective on the hunt for an American gambler who owes a fortune to a certain casino and a criminal syndicate in Macau. Chan’s pursuit of the gambler will lead him through various locations in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China with ParaNorman director Sam Fell at the helm.
Chan has stated, since the first announcement of the project, that this will be an action comedy, and Fan bing-bing (soon to be seen in the new X-Men movie) looks set to provide the glamour while Sean Wwilliam Scott provides much of the humour. But if you look back at his performances in Stark Raving and Bulletproof Monk, he can also handle the action side of things pretty well...
Now, Chan had previously spoken once again of his imminent retirement shortly before the release of CZ 12: Chinese Zodiac, which might have received mixed reviews from the critics but did incredible business across Asia... and once more it seems as if the rumours of his retirement were a tad presemptious or as Chan puts it “I was misquoted’ (Note: Chan has been talking of retiring since the late 1980s, he speaks of spending just a few more years in front of the camera in 1990’s The Best of Martial Arts Films and we’re happy to say he’s still here at 59 kicking and punching in a manner that we wish we could have done in our 20s!) Chan will soon be seen in the dark Police Story 2013, which follows a more serious tone than its predecessors as Chan and his Police Squad are forced to fight a crime wave which threatens the city. Chan has also been speaking of a possible collaboration with Crouching Tiger... and Life of Pi director Ang Lee on an as yet undisclosed project.
You can see a domestic eastern trailer (which has started circulating on the 'Net this week) for the new Police Story 2013 below...
