It seems you can stop the hungry march of the zombies. As we know, the acclaimed [REC] films - created by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza - are soon to get a fourth chapter with 'Apocalypse'. But it has just been announced that the franchise is also getting yet another shot/bite in the arm with the news of a further trilogy of films (so far only labelled [REC] 5, 6 and 7) which will expand out separately from some of the factors seen in the original movies.
This new 'trilogy of terror' will be helmed by film-makers such as Agustí Villaronga, Nacho Vigalondo and Pablo Bergel (pictured below with the new image from the projects' official facebook page) and will begin being released at yearly intervals starting from 2015.
Little is known about the new trilogy, but Nacho Vigalondo (The ABCs of Death, Truecrimes and linked to the cinema adaptation of Mark Millar's Supercrooks) reveals that his chapter ('6')will have something of a 'road movie' structure with characters fleeing from village to village. He does say that Javier Botet (the actor/director who played Nina Medeiros in the first two films) could have a significant role...
[REC]: Apocalypse is directed by Jaume Balagueró and tells the story of Angel Vidal (Manuela Velasco), the young reporter at the heart of the original film's story. The survivor is taken to an isolated oil tanker that is serving as an emergency quarantine area.
Of course, absolutely nothing goes wrong...
The film, currently in post-production, is released in October 2014...
