The first teaser for the ambitious gangland thriller VOR has hit the net, courtesy of Drifting Pictures and McSoli productions, and writer/director and leading man Philippe Joly with a hard working cast and crew working on a limited budget to deliver a stylish tale of loyalty and betrayal.
The brainchild of Hong Kong based actor and Film-maker Philippe Joly whose credits include From Vegas to Macau with Chow Yun-fatt, and Helios which stars Jackie Cheung, Shawn Yue, Nick Cheung and a certain Far Eastern Editor of Impact (Me!) playing dual roles, Joly has been making a name for himself in local film and TV productions but felt the best way to take the next step was to create a project to highlight the talents of various cast & crew working in Hong Kong who don't always get the showcase they deserve. VOR began life as a short film, but impressed by the enthusiasm of those involved and the footage they were getting, and early feedback from people on that footage encouraged the team to expand the project into an independently financed feature.
When the news reaches Moscow of the death of the head of the feared Russian criminal organization known as the Vori V Zakone (Thieves in Law), his second in command, Alexander Orlov races to Hong Kong to try and stop the balence of power spiralling out of control between the Russian Mafia and the Chinese Triads.
But upon arrival in Hong Kong, Orlav learns there is also turmoil in the Triads with the son of the Triad Dragon Head preparing to make his own bid for power. He quicky discovers that the codes of honour and rules of the underworld that he holds so dear, can easily be rewritten to suit one's needs.
As friendships forged in the Soviet Prison system are put to the test, loyalties are broken and treacheries revealed. There's an old saying in the underworld, keep your friends close but your enemies closer, and that just might be the key to survival in Hong Kong.
VOR is a fast paced action thriller that uses Hong Kong as a backdrop to explore the modern mindset of the underworld, where old school believers in honour amongst thieves find themselves battling the new generation of criminal, driven only by money and power.
The film also stars Executive Producers Harry Oram and Yousseff Soliman, as well as action director Temur Mamisashvili (Covert Affairs), Tom Caserto, The Man with the Iron Fists' Andrew Ng, Sex & Zen 3D's Kirt Kishita, Alan Wai, Wilson Chee, Shirley Kwan. Jai Day, Lisa Henderson and many more.
The film is currently in post-production and will hit the festival circuit later in the year. We at Impact salute all of those involved for their stirling work on the project and finishing the film and look forward to seeing the finished product.
