SDCC – Neil Gaiman Returns to Sandman

The comic book series will return with Gaiman!

It has been twenty-five years since the first issue of the critically acclaimed comic book series, The Sandman, was released. The series that reformed storytelling, has now been confirmed for a new series at comic-con with Neil Gaiman will set to return.

At the SDCC, Gaiman himself announced it via video during DC Entertainment’s Vertigo panel and he will work with artist JH Williams III (Batwoman) to create a mini-series that will be published by Vertigo in 2013.

In the video he said, “When I finished writing The Sandman, there was one tale still untold. The story of what had happened to Morpheus to allow him to be so easily captured in The Sandman #1, and why he was returned from far away, exhausted beyond imagining, and dressed for war. It was a story that we discussed telling for The Sandman‘s 20th anniversary… but the time got away from us. And now, with The Sandman‘s 25th anniversary year coming up, I’m delighted, and nervous, that that story is finally going to be told”.

The Sandman is one of the few graphic novels that have made it on to the New York Times Best Seller List and is often described as the ‘comic strip for intellectuals’. The new mini-series has yet to have an official name but it will be released digitally.
