In yet more game-inspired news, Kane Kosugi - who can currently be seen battling Scott Adkins in Ninja: Shadow of a Tear - is about to headine another movie, but there's some confusion over whether it will actually be linked to the live-action Tekken franchise as originally reported.
The original news suggested that Kane would be headlining a production - to be directed by Ong Bak's Prachya Pinkaew - with the title Tekken: A Man Called X which would serve as a prequel to the Tekken movie of a few years ago. However Kosugi has stated on his own website that this is not quite the case and apologised if there's been any confusion. For the moment the film will actually be produced under the shorter title 'Agent X' and it is not known quite how or if it will directly tie in to the game series
Kane, for those who don't already know, is a generational star: the eldest son of 80’s cinematic Ninja hero Sho Kosugi, and appeared as a child alongside his father in such projects as Revenge of the Ninja and Pray For Death, as a teenager in Black Eagle (also with Jean-Claude Van Damme) and then as an adult in such projects as Shogun Mayeda. Striking out on his own Kane headlined the dark cyber punk tournament flick Muscle Heat, got a great showcase for his skills in DOA: Dead or Alive, headlined Choy Li Fut and Coweb in China, as well as being the lead character in the short film Timeless with Korean action director Jung Doo-hung, ... before facing off against Scott Adkins in Isaac Florentine’s aforementioned Ninja: Shadow of a Tear.
Kane impressed everyone in front and behind the scenes on Ninja, and it’s great to him playing the lead in the new Tekken adventure, which is being choreographed by Ninja 2 and Man of Tai Chi’s Brahim Achabakhe.
