Will The Flash be up to speed..?

Written by (Editor) on 28th February 2014

Giving a new definition to the term 'speed-camera', 'The Flash'  launches on America's The CW channel later in 2014. And we have our first look at the costume...

Superheroes... you can't move for them nowadays. We'll soon have the X-Men visiting the Days of Future Past and for the next few year we'll positively be awash with them on the big screen.   One of the current hits on the television is Arrow - the version of DC character Green Arrow - and viewers recently met Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in key episodes. That has set the stage for 'Barry's' own series... as long-term comic fans will know that his alter-ego is (or will be) that of the super-speeder The Flash.

The CW will launch The Flash later this year with Gustin reprising the title role. We don't know a lot about the series, though the fact that John Wesley Shipp, who played the character in the brief 1990s' series will have an unspecified role in at leats the pilot episode is interesting. We now also know what part of The Flash costume will look like. Gone are the more awkward spheres that were on each side of the cowl/helmet, replaced with the lightning strikes that also emblazoned his original chest area. We haven't seen the rest of the costume yet, but the material looks to have more in common with the red leather-effect used in such films as Daredevil.

September will also likely see the launch of FOX's Gotham series, but Arrow has proven to be a ratings-winner for The CW channel and it will be interesting to see if this spin-off can catch lightning in a bottle once more.
