Tuesday's night normal Marvel's Agents of SHIELD episode on American television was displaced by a broader-themed hour-long look at the way that Marvel Studios have slowly built their interconnected world of superheroes. Of course, most of the programme was a look back at the accomplishements - how Iron Man caught the imagination and eventually led us through the likes of the Captain America films, the Thor movies, the big Avengers movie and the SHIELD tv series itself.
It also promised a glance (if not a long gaze) forward at what is still to come over the next couple of years. To coincide with the programme, the official Avengers twitter-feed released several pieces of 'concept-art' featuring characters we'll see in the Avengers sequel 'The Age of Ultron' due in cinemas next year. This could also be shrewd timing as there's rumours of a Joss Whedon-directed after-credits sequence at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier that is released enxt week in the UK ( a week later in the US).
The concept art shows The Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) looking like a cross between Buffy and Jean Grey, Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson aka Kick-Ass) and then The Hulk (CGI'd Mark Ruffalo) and The Black Widow (Scarlet Johnasson) together amid what appears to eb a crumbling building (Stark Tower?). It's hard to tell a lot from the images, which - as referenced - are simply early mock-up images to help guide the film-making process before filming actually begins.
However it's interesting to see the initial differences between the film versions and their comic counterparts. Of course, there's also the ongoing issue that the character of Quicksilver will also appear in a completely different incarnation in this Spring's X-Men: Days of Future Past...
