Bruce Le : The Return of the Dragon?

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 10th May 2014

As filming continues, something of a martial-arts legend and a familiar 'name' recently dropped by the 'Pound of Flesh' film-set...

The Clones of Bruce LeeFollowing Bruce Lee's unfortunate passing, Hong Kong and Taiwanese cinema was to suffer a veritable 'attack of the clones'... more specifically the clones of Bruce Lee. A number of Bruce Lee look alikes and kickalikes including Bruce Li, Bruce Le and Dragon Lee hit the screen across Asia and the world in various colorful adaptations of Lee's life and times (and various further adventures for his most famous characters in various Games of Death, Chinese Connections, Fists of Fury and more).

While the majority of the clones faded into the background, Bruce Li aka Ho Tsung-tao slowly abandoned his Bruce persona before retiring from the film business, Dragon Lee returned to Korea where he continues to work on TV to this day,...but what happened to the most prolific of the dragons, Bruce Le?

Bruce Le (Wong King-lung) began his career as a contract player for Shaw Brothers, before he was recruited to play the little dragon in such films as Bruce's Deadly Fingers, The Clones of Bruce Lee, Bruce & Shaolin Kung Fu, My Name Called Bruce, Re-Enter the Drahon, Enter the Game of Death, Ninja Strikes Back and many more.

He battled alongside Richard Harrison in the insane if fun Challenge of the Tiger/Gymkata Killer, worked as Bruce Li alongside Richard Norton in Kickfighter, battled Hwang Jan-lee alongside Terminator 2's Robert Patrick in Future Hunters, battled the Golden Triangle in Black Spot, and was last seen as the helmer of Comfort Women in 1992.  Since then there have been various rumours about his whereabouts and activities, but Le recently made a visit to the set of Pound of Flesh where I had the pleasure of catching up with the man. We'll be interviewing him about his past and future plans shortly.

Le has recently wrapped a Comfort Women redux starring Cheng Pei-pei and daughter Marsha Yuen and has plans for a return to the international arena with a new action martial arts project.
