At Impact we often report on projects that take a great deal of time to make it ot the screen, if at all. There's many hurdles to jump before a film ever gets to a multiplex (or a DVD store).
But it's always good to see firm progress on projects that we've mentioned for some time and the Hollywood Reporter notes that with the Cannes Film Festival in full swing, action-director Renny Harlin is currently in talks to direct the Jackie Chan movie we've been following progress on: Skiptrace. Finnish-born Harlin is, of course, best known for a string of 90s' action movies that includes The Long Kiss Goodnight, Die Hard 2... though he's been more prominent in recent years for helming episodes of series such as Burn Notice and White Collar. His most recent film Legend of Hercules was not quite as prominent at the box-office.
The film, which was also being touted at last year's Cannes event, originally had Sam Fell (Paranorman) attached to sit in the director's chair and will feature Seann William Scott and Fan Bingbing (X-Men: Days of Future Past). It tells the story of a cop, played by Chan who must save his niece (Fan Bingbing) when she falls into the clutches of a crimelord he has been chasing. The only man with the key to save her is an American gambler played by Scott, whom he must convince to return with him to Hong Kong.
Details are still being worked out, but the film may start lensing by the end of the summer.
