Darkest (Knight) before the 'Dawn'

Written by (Editor) on 21st May 2014

It's always Darkest (Knight) just before the Dawn. Literally... as the secretive cinematic Batman and Superman team-up gets an official title...

Dawn of JusticeIn the last week we've had a glimpse of Ben Afleck dressed in the Batman suit, though the monochrome image, with the Dark Knight standing next to one of the Batmobiles to be used in the Superman-Batman team-up was quite grainy and really only a teaser.

However, at least we now have an official title for the film that seems less like a direct sequel to Man of Steel and more of a team-up (now including Wonder Woman). The film will now be entitled Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Interestingly, that puts the guardian of Gotham's name ahead of Superman's - making it an even more distinctly stand-alone project from what has come before. Warner Bros. have also just confirmed that filming has already formally begun on the project in Detroit (with other locationsIllinois, the South Pacific and Africa.

Henry Cavill returns to the Superman role, Ben Affleck assumes the Bruce Wayne duties and Gal Gadot is appearing as Wonder Woman. Lois Lane will once again be played by Amy Adams with Laurence Fishburne reprising Daily Planet editor Perry White. Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as  Lex Luthor with Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

We already know that Zack Snyder is directing this film  AND the proposed Justice League film for which this new movie appears to be planting the seeds.   At the current time Dawn of Justice has a planned release of May 6th 2016, which Warners decided upon after Marvel announced Captain America 3 for the same date.  Time and box-office will decide whether that was a brave or foolish move.
