Those who might have been complaining that the initial annoucement on the Star Wars Episode VII casting was heavy with Jedi Knights but less so on Jedi Ladies will be pleased to know that the gender balance is getting a little better with two new names attached to the project.
Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, who won the stauette this year for her work in 12 Years a Slave has just been signed up. This had long been speculated as an option, with many critics wondering how the major award would affect the career of a relative newcomer. Her name was first rumoured in connection with the J J Abrams-directed project as quickly as the night after her Academy Award win.
Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie (known for the role of Brienne of Tarth in the hit series) will also be in a prominent role. There is no news on the specifics of the roles that either actors have won, though the fact that Christie is something of a statuesque presence on the HBO show does lead one to believe that it could be another physical role, perhaps a Jedi Knight?
