I don't think anyone would have thought that when Tom Berenger first hit the screen as Gunnery Sgt Thomas Beckett in Luis Llosa's stylish thriller Sniper (alongside Billy Zane) in 1993, that two decades later Becket would be returning to the role for the fourth time in the fifth film of the franchise.
Sniper saw Berenger's seasoned veteran teamed with a wet-behind-the-ears sniper 'Miller' (played by Zane) and on a mission in South America that goes horribly wrong. Sniper 2 saw Berenger teamed with Bokeem Woodbine for a mission in Eastern Europe and Sniper 3 saw him working with Byron Mann in Vietnam on a mission where he must confront his past.
Sniper Reloaded introduced us to Marine Sgt Brandon Beckett (Chad Michael Collins) the son of Thomas Beckett who is recruited by Miller (Zane, reprising his role) for a mission in the Congo.
Now for the fifth film in the series, Beckett Jnr. is sent on a mission that sees him teaming up with his estranged father as Berenger returns to the series in Sniper Legacy, with Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit, the upcoming Backstrom) playing a major role in the proceedings alongside Mercedes Masohn (NCIS: Los Angeles, The Finder, 666 Park Avenue). This time round the two Becketts must track down a rogue sniper targetting US personnel and uncover a plot that could bring down the government.
The DVD is released in the UK on September 29th by Sony Home Entertainment...
