Kickboxer casting - Shahlavi confirmed.

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 6th December 2014

The reworking of 'Kickboxer' continues apace. With Van Damme now confirmed, the newest cast addition is Ip Man's Darren Shahlavi.

'Britkicker' Darren Shahlavi has faced off with everyone from Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung in Ip Man 2, Scott Adkins in Les Metal Hurlants, and most recently Jean-Claude Van Damme in the upcoming Pound of Flesh. But he'll be facing off against possibly his toughest opponent in the new Kickboxer reboot.

Darren joins the cast as Eric Sloan, the ill-fated brother of Kickboxer hero Alain Moussi's character, and it is his character and his interaction with the dastardly Tong Po (played by Dave Bautista from Guardians of the Galaxy and soon to menace James Bond in Spectre) that drives the story.

As we've chronicled recently, the film has had hit a few 'bumps', twists and turns since its original announcement, but the cast changes and additions seem to bode well for the movie and certainly raise our excitement about the project. Darren joins a cast that already includes Moussi, UFC veteran George St Pierre (from Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Thai actress Sara Malakul Lane, TJ Storm  and - of course - the recently confirmed Jean-Claude Van Damme who will play Moussi's martial arts mentor ( and who will hopefully guide him to final victory).

Take a look at Darren's showreel...
