Hits keep coming as Carano joins 'Kickboxer'...

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 9th December 2014

The heavy-hitter casting continues as Van Damme, Bautista and Shahlavi are joined by Haywire's Gina Carano for the 'Kickboxer' remake...

Gina CaranoIsn't it always the way... no Kickboxer news for decades and then a whole raft of information comes one after the other. We've already reported how initial ups and downs in the casting have been ironed out and that Jean Claude van Damme, Dave Bautista and Darren Shahlavi are recent additions and replacements to the Kickboxer remake, but the casting continues apace... The remake, from Radar Pictures, has just formally announced the first lady of MMA, Gina Carano is also onboard the project. Action fans will know her from the likes of her successes in Haywire and In The Blood and the expectation she'll be a part of the long-proposed The Expendabelles project.

Carano is reunited with her In The Blood director John Stockwell for the film, playing a mysterious femme fatale who encourages the elder of the Sloane brothers to battle Tong Po, thus setting off the whole chain of events that leads to the younger Sloane brother exclaiming the infamous line 'I want Tong Po!'

It's interesting that a remake that might have once been on the very edges of the action radar, just another reworking of a previous genre classic, is starting to get a lot more mainstream attention as its cast expands.
