Jason Statham and Tony Jaa previously crossed paths on Fast & Furious 7, with Statham speaking with some enthusiasm about Jaa and his interest in them working together properly...and now, with the announcement of High Value Target, it looks like they will be pairing up with what could be the launch of a new franchise.
The high octane high impact action thriller follows an international team of private military contractors who infiltrate a cargo ship over-run by pirates in order to extract a seemingly impossible 'High Value Target' (hence the title!)... who turns out to be the pirate chief! Now, while it does sound a little like 'The Raid on a Boat', we do like the sound of it... and the producers describe the film more as a multiple combination of Black Hawk Down meets The Raid on a boat! Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes is attached to the project and - when you think about it - the opening sequence of the first Expendables movie, which was set on a cargo ship, does comes to mind.
Here's hoping the film lives up to the sum of those parts and expectations....
