Crowe Flies to Krypton

Marlon Brando famously played Superman's biological father in the 1978 version of the superhero tale. This time around the job goes to... Russell Crowe.

Industry paper Variety is reporting that Russell Crowe will take the role of Kryptonian elder Jor-El in the latest version of the Superman legend, 'Man of Steel', being filmed by Zack Snyder. Crowe is joining a cast that already includes Henry Cavill in the title role, Kevin Costner as Clark's adoptive father Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as bad-guy Zod.

It is reported that both Clive Owen and Sean Penn were also being considered for the role of Jor-El.

This will be the first time Superman has been on the big-screen since Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, which met decidely mixed reviews on its release.
