Something to Sin About...

13th April 2012

Frank Miller's big-screen Sin City looks set to be getting a cinematic sequel. The controversial, partly-CGI-animated original will get 'A Dame to Kill For' with Miller and Robert Rodriguez reuniting...

Since steering the Batman into a new era with The Dark Knight Returns, arguably producing Dardevil's seminal run for Marvel and creating all-new material such as 300 and the aforementioned Sin City stories, Miller has probably been more recently known for his strong opinions against the 'Occupy' movement.  However the news is specifically cinematic this week with the news that there will be more cinematic stories based on his Sin City books. Once again he will team with Robert Rodriguez and bring 'A Dame to Kill For...' to cinemas. The original movie was based on the first Sin City graphic novel and the follow-up That Yellow Bastard, but the latest outing is likely to follow the graphic novel of the same name for its blueprint.

Big names such as Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Elijah Wood and the late Brittany Murphy appeared in the first Sin movie back in 2005 and there are rumours that Miller and Rodriguez are after Mel Gibson and Michelle Williams for key roles in 'Dame'.

In a press statement, Rodriguez said: "The first question I am always asked is 'When will you make another Sin City? I have wanted to reteam with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. A Dame to Kill For... will certainly be worth the wait..."

The reviews for the noir-soaked Sin City were varied, like the comic some praised the innovative visual style but also criticised the violence. However there is be no denying that there has been an anticpation for a sequel since the original release and it will be interesting to see if a follow-up can live up the expectations that the fans have - and the creative forces say they're ready to reach.  Casting begins next week for production later in 2012.
