SUNDAY UPDATE: CSI Miami becomes the first version of that successful franchise to go off air after it was officially cancelled today. There were rumours that one of the CSIs would go, but many specualted it would be CSI:New York - however that was confirmed as a renewal today, depsite an ambigious ending to the current season going out this week in the US.
While the list is still far from complete, there are some surprising and not so surprising casulaties to be found among the schedule debris. NBC's Awake, starring frequent big-screen actor Jason Isaacs was considered one of the cleverest shows of the past season (Isaac's cop facing problems in two different parallel realities) but failed to attract quite enough ratings - despite an upturn with recent episodes - and has now been put to sleep. Next week's its season finale in the US will also be its final edition (and will be seen in the UK in a few weeks' time). Ringer, the show featuring two Sarah-Michelle Gellars for the price of one in a complex duplicitous twins-in-peril saga, failed to attract Buffy-numbers for the CW and both personas depart.
NBC's Harry's Law, the more gentile, but no less clever legal drama starring Misery's Kathy Bates, bows out despite being a popular show and even dark magics couldn't save The Secret Circle which found itself in a corner. The Finder, the spin-off from Bones, won't find a second run, though Bones itself will be back - including some extra episodes over the summer.
Some good news for action fans is that Nikita, starring Maggie Q, has finally got a third season renewal from the CW and that Scandal, a sharp political murder mystery serial (think The West Wing meets Murder One) that has rightfully improved its critical response week on week, will also be back on ABC for a second run...
Impact will be looking at some of the brand new shows coming this Autumn/Fall in upcoming bulletins...
