The hits keep on coming for the Super Bowl. After Christopher Walken, it’s time for Willem Dafoe to dress for Snickers success…
It appears from the latest Super Bowl 50 trailer that Willem DaFoe has a singular seven year itch he’s eager to scratch. Following in the high-heeled footsteps of Betty White, Joan Collins and Danny Trejo who also sent themselves up as ‘not being themselves’ in Snickers ads, Dafoe – the actor whose work is as diverse as The Last Temptation of Christ (where he played Jesus) and Spider-man (for which, he donned the Green Goblin armour) – takes on an unexpected role. Of course, once Marilyn/Willem has satisfied his hunger with a Snickers bar, she’s more herself… In the background we can see Eugene Levy, looking more like Martin Scorsese…
Dafoe might have had more controversial roles (including, ironically AntiChrist directed by Lars von Trier) but we’ve never imagined him quite like this. We’ll soon see him in Yimou Zhang’s The Great Wall (alongside Matt Damon and Andy Lau) and Dog Eat Dog, alongside Nicolas Cage for director Paul Schrader…
