Despite over five minutes of footage that appeared on the internet today, we have absolutely no idea what to tell you about the big-screen adaptation of David Mitchel'ls The Cloud Atlas, except to say we know very little except absolutely everything that is in that trailer... a story of revenge, retribution, loss and a love affair... and two souls that spans hundreds of years, from the past to the future, that looks at the nature of life and death and everything inbetween... that it is a trailer that in one second appears to be a sumptuous period drama, the next a contemporary comedy, the next, a glimpse to a wild and precarious future. In short it feels like every film ever made jammed into one and then thrown at the screen. Whether that is good or bad, profound or pretentious remains to be seen.
The reason we bring this to you is that its the latest work from the team known previously as the Wachowski Brothers (the people behind the likes of The Matrix, V for Vendetta, Speed Racer and Bound). Lana (formerly Laurence) Wachowski and her brother Andy have got together with Tom Tykwer and seems to embrace another project with a wide, expansive sense of ambition. Certainly the trailer has several key scenes that look as well choreographed as any action blockbuster we can think of in recent memory. The canvas is extraordinary, as is a cast that includes Tom Hanks, Jim Sturgess Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Halle Berry, Zhou Xun, Jim Broadbent and Hugh Grant in multiple roles. Will the story match?
The trailer can be currently found at the links below, though it does seem to be disappearing from other sites across the 'Net, so you may have to be quick... let us know what you think of it on our Facebook page.
