One New Dance with Mary Jane?

Written by (Editor) on 10th October 2012

Face it, Tiger...the Amazing Spider-man sequel appears to be lining up some new actors to join the returning cast in the sequel... hello, Mary Jane...

With most of the original cast from this year's successful Amazing Spider-man reboot being set to return for the inevitable sequel, the question was who would be ADDED to the cast. Trade magazine The Hollywood Reporter says that Shailene Woodley is in negotiations to join the franchise. Regular cinema-goers may recognise the name/face from her acclaimed role opposite George Clooney in last year's award-baiting The Descendants. and television show The Secret Life of the American Teenager...

It would seem from these initial reports that Woodley is in early talks for the pivotal role of Mary Jane Watson. Emma Stone played Peter Parker's original love Gwen Stacey (opposite Andrew Garfield's Peter/Spidey) in this year's outing, though comic-fans know that within original comics continuity Stacy came to a sticky end and Mary-Jane Watson was the woman that Peter ended up marrying  (until that whole marriage was retconned out of existence by Marvel who claimed people couldn't relate to Spidey if he was rushing home to his wife all the time).

With the well-named Marc Webb also returning to direct the sequel, it looks as if there could be some added romantic angst when the webhead returns, though we recommend that Gwen stays away from high bridges and Mary-Jane stays away from red-horned demons...
