News is breaking through industry site Deadline that Matthew Vaughn will NOT be directing the much-anticpated sequel to X-Men: First Class. While no-one has officially been announced to replace the director, Deadline is suggesting that the X-Men's original auteur Bryan Singer might step into the role, providing the kind of synchronicity that the ime-travellingsubject-matter of the film already suggests.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is said to draw heavily on the original comics story of the same name whic saw an adult Kitty Pryde travel back from a dystopian future ruled by the mutant-hunting robotic Sentinels to the present, to stop an assassination that would lead to that nightmare scenario. Though Pryde would be unlikely to be the crux of the cinematic version, there are strong rumours that the forthcoming film will involve a similar idea of time-travel and might also feature some of the X-Men from Singer's version.
What will Vaughn be doing now? No-one is confirming it just yet, but there are rumours that Vaughn may reteam with Mark Millar (they worked on Kick-Ass) for an adaptation of Secret Service.
