Banshee 3.10: 'We All Pay Eventually...'

16th March 2015

It's all-out war in the season finale of Banshee as everyone grabs guns, grenades and their best game face to protect what they care about... to the death.

Banshee Season Three FinaleAware that his team have been taken, the most stupid thing Hood could do is walk into the military compound and confront Colonel Stowe himself. Which, for a man not known for making the smartest choices, is exactly what he does. But before Hood will make any deal to get the corrupt military-man his money back, he wants proof of life - and he's relieved that while bruise, battered and brutalised, Jobe, Fancy and Carrie are still actually breathing. But for how long?

As much as Hood may have underestimated Stowe, it also becomes clear that he may have also underestimated others in his circle who also have a stake in getting the captives home.

In an effective if not subtle segue we match Hood and his back-up heading off to 'war' with Proctor and Rebecca re-establishing their power-base against their competitors.

In between resolving many of this season's threads, we get three significant other stories: firstly how 'Hood' left the military after assaults and insubordination and was recruited by Dalton (The Newsroom/The Equalizer's Dave Harbour's as a menacing suit-clad captor) for far more shady business. We also get what is obviously some groundwork for Season Four. New recruit and ex-white supremacist Kurt (Tom Pelphrey) revisits the leader of his old group - his brother. His brother tells him he must take off the police uniform and come back to the Brotherhood, but Kurt wants the exact opposite. He's here to warn his sibling to get as far away from the Brotherhood as possible because he intends to take them all down and redeem himself. Plus, at least one character's fate is left to be decided another day as their own past catches up with them from an unexpected source.

Once again there's eye-popping brutality that comes from a variety of sources, not just the predictable and inevitable gun-play but even so far as a Highlandery use of a beautiful bladed sword. There's no mercy expected or given as we close out the latest run.

An outstandingly executed, if sometimes unusually-paced season ends out in style with some major 'daddy' issues and with Season Four already on the cards there's little doubt the faithful will be sticking around.

But will Hood?
