Geena Davis to Star in The Exorcist TV Series

Academy Award nominated actress Geena Davis is to star in a leading role in the new TV series, ‘The Exorcist‘…

Based on the original 1973 movie, The Exorcist will consist of 10 episodes and will be aired on 23rd September on FOX in the US, and on Syfy in the UK. Although based on the film, the series is not a remake and takes place in Chicago, 40 years after the events of the first film. Many fans of the original film claim that it is the scariest horror movie that has ever been made, with many of the shots becoming iconic images in popular culture.

Geena will play mother Angela Rance, who is haunted by terrifying recurrent nightmares, while her daughter Katherine (Brianne Howey) refuses to leave the solace of her bedroom.

Katherine’s father and Angela’s husband Henry (Ferris Bueller‘s Alan Ruck) is losing his grip on reality as the family becomes slowly convinced of a demonic presence in the house, growing stronger and more hostile each day. Discussing the chilling tale, Ruck said: “It’s the oldest story. It’s the never-ending story of good versus evil, and I think people want to believe, deep down, that somehow, good will prevail.”

The story follows two priests (played by Ben Daniels and Alfonso Herrera) who are brought into the household to try to perform an exorcism on the girl, who may seem perfectly normal but is hiding a horrifying secret. “You have to take into account that battle between good and evil exists — light and darkness exists,” said Herrera.

Colin McLeod, MD, UK & Emerging Markets at NBCUniversal International Networks, said: “Securing the UK premiere of The Exorcist is a major coup for Syfy and an ideal fit for the channel brand where viewers are encouraged to imagine greater…”

“With its exceptional production values and stellar all-star cast, this exciting acquisition underlines our commitment to delivering our viewers bold, daring and must-see content.”
