Action adventures set in confined spaces are notoriously hard to pull off - action needs space and while a limited environment can provide initial tension, it also provides certain limitations as to where and how you can propel a story forward. Films set on aircraft are a particular problem, often having to contrive situations that defy probablity (Flight-Path, Red-Eye etc) or need massive coincidences and a sky-high suspension of disbelief to make them enjoyable on even a basic level.
So, watching the trailer for Non-Stop, there's no doubt it ticks most of those 'concern' boxes from the very outset - it could be lightweight fun, but it also seems it might have tipped over into eye-rolling silliness that moves you from 'What the hell..?' to 'Why the heck..?'
Liam Neeson is undergoing something of a prolific renaissance since Taken, but also seems to have fallen back on formula quite quickly thereafter - we'll see if Non-Stop makes it out of the gate or not in February...
