It's still a good few months away, but this gives us our first real chance - beyond the Super Bowl trailer - to have a look at what to expect from Transformers: Age of Extinction. Though this is a 'whole new chapter' with new characters, metallic and human, there's an obviousindication (from the very first scene) that this has some definite links to Michael Bay's original trilogy. Despite the new cast line-up and locations, including an eatsern shoot that was not without incident, we know that some previous events will be acknowledged - though time has passed.
Some of us at Impact weren't the greatest fans of the last film, but we're all eager to see if some of the problems have been addressed. The FX look solid enough, but that's one element that Bay has hands-down (it would be worrying if they weren't up to scratch!). There's more than a glimpse of the Dinobots in there as well, which should be a new interesting element. Swirling metal aside, casting IS important Mark Wahlberg is a solid performer and it may have been a very smart move to put someone like him at the centre of the action. Equally, we're fans of Titus Welliver (recently seen essaying the nuanced title character in Amazon's potential pilot 'Bosch' , based on the Michael Connelly novels) and he looks to be bringing a sense of menace to proceedings here.
This whets our appetite, but it will be interesting to see how much bang we get for our buck AND what else the film may have to offer...
The film opens this June and July...
