Strike Back… strikes back.

Strike Back

It had a successful run on television and there’s talk of a feature-film spin-off, but for the moment ‘Strike Back‘ is set to strike back onto tv with a ‘reboot’ next year…

After 5 seasons of globe trotting action and espionage the Sky/Cinemax series Strike Back, originally based on former SAS operative Chris Ryan’s book of the same name, came to an end in 2015.

The original series saw Richard Armitage (from Spooks and Berlin Station) as the lead, while Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton took over as the leads for the subsequent series as British and American agents working in Covert Ops for ‘Section 20’. The series featured plenty of action, drama, exotic locations and story-lines plucked from the headlines, featuring the likes of big name actors such as Michelle Yeoh, Rhona Mitra, Dougray Scott, Max Beesley, Charles Dance, Robson Green, Will Yun-lee and Martin Clunes during its run.

The series ended in June with our two heroes riding off into the sunset. Philip Winchester joined the short-lived Wesley Snipes series The Player and will soon be seen in Chicago Law, while Stapleton costars in Blindspot.

But now Cinemax and Sky1 have announced a new series and reboot of Strike Back, with a brand new cast including Daniel McPherson, Alin Sumarwate, Roxane McKee and Warren Brown. The new series will focus on the restoration of Section 20 when a notorious terrorist escapes during a brutal prison break. The team is assigned to carry out covert military intelligence gathering and high risk operations and they embark on a lethal manhunt that will uncover a global criminal conspiracy which threatens the world.

The new series is being written by Jack Lothian, who will serve as showrunner and executive  producer along with Andy Harris, Sharon Hughff, Bill Shepherd and Michael J Bassett (who will also serve as director). The new series is set to begin filming in 2017.

For now a look back at the 5th season:
