The third of the Netflix / Marvel action shows – ‘Luke Cage’ – is now confirmed to debut at the end of September…
Netflix and Marvel are gearing up for the release of the second season of Daredevil which starts streaming on 18th March. But they’ve also taken the time to confirm when their third co-production will be hitting screens.
Joining Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Luke Cage is now set to bow on 30th September. Mike Colter reprises the role of the Hell’s Kitchen resident with impervious skin that we already saw ‘romancing’ Jessica Jones in her first season. That relationship was intense but problematic and it isn’t clear whether Jessica (Krysten Ritter) will appear at all ahead of her own second season.
We do know that Rosario Dawson – who rapidly seems to be becoming the connective tissue between the shows – will also be seen as nurse Claire Temple and there will be complications to the fight against crime that also involve the likes of Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Frank Whaley and Sonia Braga.
Luke Cage is the third title out of the four confirmed series featuring ‘titular’ heroes. The fourth, Iron Fist, saw Marvel recently announcing that Finn Jones would be playing that hero – aka Danny Rand. It’s possible he too could make an advance appearance in the Luke Cage series as the two are partnered ‘Heroes for Hire’ in Marvel‘s comic-book continuity. The plan is to eventually dovetail all the shows into a ‘Defenders‘ mini-series – a la a street-level Avengers team-up.
