The Sweeney was the cutting-edge police action series that revolutionised the cops 'n' robbers genre during the 1970s and gave British television its first primetime look at a rough and rugged and less than perfect police force. Named after the cockney slang for Flying Squad, ('Sweeney Todd') the series followed the investigations by Jack Regan (John Thaw), George Carter (Dennis Waterman) and their team. Now, over three decades later, the concept is back... and on the BIG screen, with Ray Winstone and Ben Drew assuming the two leading roles. There's also a host of other familiar faces on show, including Damian Lewis, Hayley Atwell and Leeds-born Steven Waddington.
