Those first two projects of the partnership should geenrate some real attention. The Master is a martial arts drama set in the US in the 1970s and centres on a Hong Kong immigrant turned kung-fu school master who is targetted for revenge by a gun shop owner. The film will star Donnie Yen in the title role and is to be directed by Soi Cheang, whose previous work includes Motorway and Accident. (This does sound a lot like the previously announced Enter the Master project, which was to have been directed by Gordan Chan and star Yen and Nicholas Tse and was also set in the US - there's no confirmation at the moment if this is a new project entirely or a new take on the original idea).
The second project, Dragon City, is to be directed by Derek Kwok (Gallants) and is again set during the 1970s. Yen takes the lead, this time as a cop who leads a special task force assigned with battling crime and police corruption inside the now-demolished Kowloon Walled City.
Both films are being fast tracked into pre-production with early word suggesting that both will begin shooting before the end of this year. Yen is currently wrapping up his reworking of Iceman Cometh in 3D, and has Monkey King and Special Identity awaiting release. He is also rumoured to be in talks for Crouching Tiger 2 which is being developed by The Weinstein Company.
